Hugh Addison Winters III T. WEB

Hugh Winters was born on March 11, 1913, in Society Hill, South Carolina. He entered the United States Naval Academy in June 1931 and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1935.

During World War II, Winters served as a fighter pilot and was credited with eight aerial victories. He was awarded two Navy Crosses, three Silver Stars, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal.

After the war, Winters continued to serve in the Navy, eventually retiring as a captain in 1962. He then settled in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he became active in the community.

Winters died on April 25, 2008, at the age of 95. He was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Winters was a highly decorated naval officer and a respected member of the Lynchburg community. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
