The Monarchs Are Coming to Town

Old Dominion heads to Greenville this weekend to take on the Pirates in their first road game of the 2023 season.

At his weekly press conference on Monday, ECU head coach Mike Houston previewed the matchup and discussed several other topics.

Houston on ODU

• “They’re a well-coached team that’s going to come in here and give us a challenge,” Houston said.
• “They’ve got some really good players, especially on offense. Their quarterback, Hayden Wolff, is a really good player. He can make all the throws and he’s got a lot of weapons around him.”
• "We’re going to have to be ready to play our best game of the season," Houston said. "This is a big game for us, and we need to protect our home field.”

Injury Updates

Houston also provided updates on several injured players.

• Linebacker Jireh Wilson is doubtful for Saturday’s game with an ankle injury.
• Defensive end Rick D'Abreu is probable with a knee injury.
• Wide receiver Jayden Borders is questionable with a hamstring injury.

Other Notes

Houston also discussed the team’s upcoming schedule, which includes a road game at No. 1 Clemson on Sept. 16.

"We’re excited about the challenge of playing Clemson," Houston said. "They’re the best team in the country, and we’re going to have to play our best game of the season to have a chance to win.”
